The number of people in India who have died in monsoon flooding this year. At least 48 people died this week in the western part of the country. In the desert state of Rajasthan, about 24,000 people fled to higher ground to survive the torrent, according to the Associated Press. Most of the deaths have been due to drowning, building collapses and electrocutions. India’s monsoon season runs from June to September. (Associated Press)

27.96 feet

The height at which Indian Creek crested Thursday morning south of Kansas City, Mo., breaking the record by nearly two feet. The Kansas City area was inundated with 4 to 7 inches of rain Wednesday night in just a matter of hours, resulting in widespread flash flooding. The deluge fell on top of oversaturated soil, as the Kansas City region has experienced above-average rainfall in July. (Kansas City Star)

The Enhanced Fujita (EF) rating of the tornado that touched down to the southwest of the Bay Bridge on Kent Island early Monday. The tornado was on the ground for only a couple of minutes, but it was long enough to cause extensive damage. With average wind speeds between 111-135 miles per hour, the EF-2 twister is the strongest tornado to strike Maryland since September 2004, and only the third known tornado on Kent Island. The departure in degrees from the normal July high temperature (82 degrees) in Boston on Monday. All of New England was mired in a midsummer cool spell to start the week, perhaps best quantified by the fact that much of the Arctic Circle was warmer than New England on Monday. Such is life in the northeast corridor of the country, where cool ocean waters rule year-round and a persistent east wind combined with some rain can ruin summer vacations. (Boston.com)

40 days and 40 nights

The amount of time since Seattle has received any measurable rainfall. If you know anything about the Pacific Northwest, you realize that’s a pretty long dry stretch for a city that sees the sun only 41 percent of the time. It’s unlikely to rain in the Emerald City anytime soon, given that the end of July is historically adverse to precipitation. That means the record of consecutive days without rain (51 days in 1951) is well within reach. (NWS Seattle)

145 years

The amount of time weather observations have been kept at Xujiahui weather station in Shanghai. On Friday, the station reached 105.6 degrees, which was the hottest temperature on record there. Shanghai, the most populous municipality in the world, is in the midst of a brutal heat wave, with the region topping 100 degrees for eight consecutive days and counting. And we aren’t talking about a dry heat here. Shanghai’s climate is actually classified in the same category as Washington, D.C., although its geography is more akin to the Mississippi delta. Either way, you get the point. It’s humid in the summer, and the dew point when this record occurred was 77 degrees. It pains me too much to even list the heat index. (Shanghai Daily) Full Article:

37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,

39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. Subscribe to our channel: ///////
